Salary: Participants in the programme will be paid at the London living wage of £13.85 per hour for all activity and for attending mentoring sessions. We estimate that the total fee participants will receive for taking part in this project will be just over £500.
Working Hours: Part-Time (The programme involves: five 2-hour online sessions, 2 days of in-person group work and 2 days of an in-person work placement. This activities will be spread out between 20 October 2025 and 26 March 2026.)

Job Description
Opera Pioneers is a short, mentored programme designed for people with lived experience of homelessness to take their first steps in exploring careers in the opera and wider performing arts sector, specifically in behind-the-scenes roles that support, produce and facilitate the work of an organisation.
This is a paid opportunity — participants will receive payment for their time, at the London Living Wage. There is no cost to take part.
This programme is aimed at people with lived experience of homelessness, at any point of their life, and a curiosity about the opera sector with an interest in building a career.
Opera Pioneers is a practical introduction to key areas of the sector, including: Producing, Marketing and Communications, Fundraising, Front of House, Arts Leadership and Administration.
What the programme offers
- A short-term training and development scheme designed to build skills over an intensive period. The programme operates at a national level, engaging participants from across the country
- Mentorship and support from professionals in the arts sector
- Parts of the programme will be tailored to reflect the individual interests and goals of participants
- Work experience placements within Streetwise Opera or with partner arts organisations
- A practical introduction to key areas of the sector, including: Producing, Marketing and Communications, Fundraising, Front of House, Arts Leadership and Administration
This is not a comprehensive training course, but a dynamic and supportive first step into the industry, offering tools, introductions to skills and guidance to pursue further opportunities.
1-1 mentoring (online or in person) will be offered during the programme to support participants through the programme.
