About Us
Independent Choices Greater Manchester (ICGM) has over 40 years of experience providing support, advice, and advocacy to survivors of domestic abuse and violence (DVA) in Greater Manchester. Our organisation works to:

  • Support survivors of domestic abuse across the UK
  • Educate the public and professionals on DVA issues

We operate several key services, including:

  • The Greater Manchester Domestic Abuse Helpline, & the Community Helpline Language Service featuring services in Urdu & Punjabi
  • Professional and public training on DVA
  • Community Engagement initiatives across Greater Manchester
  • A Volunteer Program to support our services

We also manage the “End the Fear” website, which offers resources, news, and job vacancies related to DVA and Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) in Greater Manchester.

The Role
We are looking for a compassionate and proactive Domestic Abuse Helpline Advisor to join our team. In this role, you will provide crucial support and guidance to individuals affected by domestic abuse through our helpline. You will assess the needs of callers and offer appropriate advice and referrals while maintaining a calm, confidential, and non-judgmental approach.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to helpline calls and assess the needs of individuals affected by DVA
  • Offer guidance, emotional support, and information on available resources
  • Maintain confidentiality and build trust with callers
  • Ensure accurate record-keeping and follow-up support where necessary

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Awareness of domestic violence and abuse issues
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to remain calm, resilient, and non-judgmental under pressure
  • Good organisational skills and basic ICT knowledge
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Commitment to supporting individuals affected by domestic abuse

Hours Per Week: 24
