Job Description

The Growth Company’s (GC) Business Development Team has a vacancy for a Bid Manager. In this role the successful candidate will lead the production of high-quality, winning written submissions to win new business and retain existing business across our key markets (Employment Services, Health, Justice, Skills, and Business Support).

We are a fast-growing, values-based social enterprise. We deliver high-impact and innovative services that help people, businesses and places overcome social, economic, and business challenges.

This role will primarily be based working from home, with occasional (monthly) travel to our head office (Central Manchester). This is common for our Business Development Team and means we can recruit the very best candidates, irrespective of where they live. You will work with the Business Development Team and other internal and external stakeholders and provide direction, management, and support to develop winning proposals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage/lead the production of high-quality, winning bid responses and submissions, ensuring these consistently score the highest available quality marks.
  • Review bid responses and successful/unsuccessful tenders and provide feedback to drive improvements.
  • Support other members of the team to deliver high-scoring responses consistently. Lead on storyboarding and drafting responses to ensure win themes are reflected in bid responses, propositions, and associated presentations, maximising potential to secure the contract.
  • Provide management and oversight of bids through their various stages.
  • Lead and support selected bidding and business development opportunities, undertaking the research and completion of EOI, PQQ, ITT, and proposals, maximising the likelihood of success.
  • Develop a winning strategy for each bidding opportunity (in line with the overall business growth strategy), ensuring that agreed key messages / win themes are present in the bid response.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the business units, business development, supply chain, and finance teams to assist with cross-Group tendering or proposition development, design, and governance.
  • Lead presentations, supplier meetings, and dialogue with current and prospective customers as part of early engagement, competitive dialogue, clarification questions and post-tender negotiations.

About You:

  • Self-driven with high capacity to plan and manage competing demands, and tight deadlines.
  • Calm under pressure and able to support others effectively at times of pressure.
  • Articulate, energetic and proactive.
  • Flexible and adaptable to change and to meet deadlines with a ‘can-do’ approach.

Requirements:

  • Experience in a Bid Manager or equivalent role.
  • Demonstrable track record of leading/managing winning multi-million-pound competitive tenders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of commercial models.
  • Ability to interpret and summarise complex information.
  • Evidence of analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong project management and organisational skills.
  • Experienced in leading storyboarding sessions, participating in key review meetings / final document review, and content editing and sign-off.
  • Ability to prioritise within a busy workload and work effectively to tight deadlines.
  • Able to work on own initiative as well as work effectively as part of a team.

We are committed to increasing the diversity of our workforce, we provide a guaranteed interview to applicants who meet the essential requirements for a role. This commitment applies to candidates who have a disability or are from a diverse ethnic community.

As part of our application process, you can ask to be considered under this scheme if you are from an ethnic community or have a physical or mental impairment that has a substantial and long-term negative effect on your ability to do normal daily activities. Providing that you meet the essential criteria for the role, you will then be invited for an interview.
