Job Description

MIDAS and Marketing Manchester have a vacancy for a Communications Manager, this role will promote Manchester as a leader in innovation with world leading strengths in key sectors and a great place for businesses to invest. 

The successful person will define key propositions and messaging, identify and deliver public relations and external communications regionally, nationally and internationally across all communications channels. The post holder will be responsible for delivering sector press engagement for Greater Manchester’s priority business sectors including Advanced Manufacturing, Digital and Technology, Life Sciences Professional and Business Services. The role also liaises with our business development teams to enhance Greater Manchester’s reputation and drive investment project leads. 

MIDAS is an award-winning inward investment agency that promotes Greater Manchester (GM) as a destination for businesses to create jobs and new investment into the city region. This is achieved through the global business marketing of the city region's key sectors and the provision of an extensive package of free advice and assistance for potential investors and location consultants. MIDAS has helped hundreds of businesses successfully relocate to or expand in Greater Manchester. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Raise media profile with key international / national business and sector press, through the development and management of thought leadership articles and press releases, working with GM businesses to identify assets / resources, including external agencies where appropriate.
  • Raise the profile of priority business sectors with GM stakeholders and sharing a joint narrative with them.
  • Collaborate with Director of Strategic Partnerships and Marketing on business development activities which supply qualified leads into the sales pipeline.
  • Maintain currency with policy changes and macro-environmental trends relating to GM business sectors to proactively identify, develop and act upon communications opportunities
  • Communicate and engage with the Greater Manchester’s business sector networks and forums.
  • Develop existing and new web / social media content to increase the reach, consistency and immediacy of content.
  • Lead the delivery of fully integrated, creative and imaginative marketing materials for a variety of media formats, and digital platforms working with the marketing team to support key objectives and maintain high standards.
  • Proactively identify partners and stakeholders, engaging with key contacts to build strong relationships, secure relevant input and ensure a coordinated approach.
  • Implement, monitor and report on key performance indicators relating to targets set in service level agreements, action plans, and funding agreements.
  • Ensure that the vision for the city region is understood and that messages and approaches are coordinated and complementary to the Greater Manchester strategic priorities and other relevant initiatives.

About You:

  • Substantial experience of working within a B2B communications environment. 
  • Experience of writing and content management within a B2B environment.
  • Extensive experience of working with both the private and public sectors to create stories and generate global coverage.
  • Able to develop web and social media content strategies to support communications objectives.
  • Experience of developing insight and key messages from complex topics/ organisations and effectively communicating them to diverse audiences.
  • Excellent knowledge of communications and media engagement - with substantial experience in the field.
  • Able to demonstrate an excellent working knowledge of Greater Manchester’s stories/strengths and key stakeholders.
  • Can effectively liaise, engage and relate at all levels within the sector, including with Greater Manchester partners and stakeholders.
  • Confident and resourceful, an open and responsive individual who promotes good ideas and ways of working.

Skills Required:

  • Skilled storyteller and writer.
  • Copy editing, drafting and proof-reading skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to engage and influence internal teams and external organisations to find positive stories to promote the sector.
  • Able to creatively reach media and influencers and an understanding of a range of communications channels and how to measure their effectiveness.
  • Execute engaging content for a range of online and offline communication channels.
  • Planning and organisational skills and managing social media.
