Job Description
ARE YOU 18-25 AND PASSIONATE ABOUT EXPLORING LOCAL HISTORY?
We’re excited to offer paid fellowship opportunities with SICK! Productions, creators of the SICK! Festival, for three young people living in North Manchester.
This is a unique chance to explore and celebrate the rich history of Moston, Harpurhey, and Charlestown — once thriving towns of the Industrial Revolution, now vibrant communities with deep heritage and a focus on regeneration.
WHAT IS THE NOW FELLOWSHIP?
The NOW Fellowship is a 6-month paid programme for 18–25-year-olds in North Manchester. Participants will gain hands-on experience in community history research, oral histories, public engagement activities, working with artists, and community archiving. They will also receive mentoring, coaching, and networking opportunities to support pathways into careers in heritage, culture, research, and archives.
Fellows will benefit from training while contributing to decision-making alongside the SICK! team and developing their own research ideas.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
As a NOW Fellow, you’ll be part of the Shared Heritage Murals Programme, helping bring the area's stories to life by working with artists, shopkeepers, and residents to develop new mural artworks. You will:
- Carry out research on the history of the shops and area to help shape the artworks.
- Collaborate with mural artists to embed history into the designs.
- Meet business owners and be part of oral history recordings.
- Work with a historian to develop research and archiving skills.
- Generate ways to engage the public with research as part of an event at Boggart Hole Clough in May.
- Represent SICK! at events and workshops.
- Create a lasting archive of your work and refine your research interests.
