Job Description

We are Manchester Students’ Union, the biggest SU in the country, supporting over 40,000 students throughout their time at university. We help to make student life the best it can be by supporting students to campaign for change, creating opportunities to meet new people, providing employment opportunities, providing advice and support and being a safe place on campus.

About the role

Are you passionate about championing wellbeing and inclusion and value peer-peer support? We’re hiring a Senior Inclusion Coordinator to join our Student Development Team.

Some students are more likely to face barriers that prevent them from making the most of university, particularly those from historically underserved or marginalised communities. The Student Development Team aims to dismantle barriers to involvement so all students can engage with all the university has to offer. The Senior Inclusion Coordinator will play a key role in achieving this vision for our student communities.

In collaboration with a second Senior Inclusion Coordinator, you’ll be leading on a series of wellbeing and inclusion programmes that we’re really proud of:

  • Our wellbeing schemes such as: SU How’s you, engaging with over a thousand students in its pilot, Student Angels now entering it’s X year; facilitate students working with other students to promote physical and emotional safety in a proactive friendly way.
  • Our inclusion work, which includes a range of union delivered projects as well as partnerships with the University to enable all students to thrive, regardless of personal background.
  • Our grants which distribute almost £200,000 a year, contributing to enabling students to make the most of their time at university, helping them get involved in social activities and access gender affirming resources.

As the Senior Inclusion Coordinator, you’ll also be co-designing new projects aimed at progressing the Union’s approach to enabling students to fully engage with their university experience and making our organisation as accessible as possible. We have an outstanding research & insight function that will support you to make data-driven decisions on making our programmes even better and inform the creation of new targeted programmes for marginalised and underserved communities, putting the needs of those students at the heart of our work. You will coordinate the onboarding, skills development, and tailored support for studying staff, who in turn, coordinate the day to day running of the wellbeing and inclusion projects. This means you’ll play a vital role in fostering student wellbeing at multiple levels.

We offer a comprehensive training programme for skills you might want to work on, from giving and receiving feedback well, to coaching and safeguarding. There’s no need for previous Higher Education sector experience – you might have a passion for inclusion and have co-ordinated projects in any context. We’re looking for someone who is an innovative thinker, capable of motivating or inspiring others into action, comfortable making autonomous decisions, and curious about exploring new ways of working.
