JOB TITLE: School Streets Support Officer
ORGANISATION: Trafford Community Collective
HOURS: 28 hours per week to be worked flexibly as agreed.
SALARY: £21,840 actual salary (£27,300 FTE)
CONTRACT LENGTH: 12 month fixed-term contact
JOB PURPOSE:
1. To support with the recruitment, induction, retention and co-ordination of school street volunteers.
2. To work with communities in and around the identified schools to create strong, sustainable School Streets.
3. Assist with monitoring the impact of School Streets, for example carrying out surveys and collecting traffic data.
4. To support with wider walking, wheeling and cycling initiatives as required.
Main Duties:
- Manage volunteer rotas, ensuring there are enough volunteers for each closure and contacting schools when support from school staff is necessary.
- Act as a point of contact for new volunteers and ensure they are briefed on roles and responsibilities
- Be available to marshal School Streets throughout Trafford; this involves being available at the start / end of the school day
- Assist with organising, and participate in, events on the School Streets
- Assist in communicating with residents, for example hand delivering flyers
- Work with the School Streets and Activation Officer / Walking, Wheeling and Cycling Lead on other activities relating to the day to day management, or the promotion and support of the School Streets
- Report any problems or issues arising on the School Streets or mentioned by volunteers to the School Streets Officer
- To support with carrying out consultation with schools, parents/carers, residents and other stakeholders on the impact and benefits of school streets.
- To be part of a multi-agency School Streets working group directing and supporting this work.
Essential skills, knowledge, ability and experience.
- Experience of being or working with volunteers
- Experience of working in community settings
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to motivate and enthuse others
- Ability to organise and deliver activities and events
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to plan and prioritise own workload
- Ability to be flexible.
- Understanding of the health benefits of active travel, and by extension, school streets
- A commitment to equal opportunities in service delivery and employment
- A willingness to undertake appropriate training and development
- A willingness to work flexible hours when required including evening and weekends
- A willingness to work on other active travel events when required
Desirable skills, knowledge, ability and experience.
- Experience of partnership working within a community, education or environmental project
- Experience of working with children and young people
- Ability to travel sustainably to schools and communities across Trafford
- Knowledge of school settings
- Knowledge of community consultation
